Ivermectin 272 mcg

HEARTGARD Plus should be administered orally at monthly intervals at the recommended minimum dose level of 6 mcg of ivermectin per kilogram (2.72 mcg/ lb) and 5 mg of pyrantel (as pamoate salt) per kg (2.27 mg/lb) of body weight.

ADMINISTRATION: Remove only one chewable at a time from the foil-backed blister card. Return the card with the remaining chewables to its box to protect the product from light. Because most dogs find HEARTGARD Plus palatable, the product can be offered to the dog by hand. Alternatively, it may be added intact to a small amount of dog food. The chewable should be administered in a manner that encourages the dog to chew, rather than to swallow without chewing. Chewables may be broken into pieces and fed to dogs that normally swallow treats whole.

Care should be taken that the dog consumes the complete dose, and treated animals should be observed for a few minutes after administration to ensure that part of the dose is not lost or rejected. If it is suspected that any of the dose has been lost, redosing is recommended.

Heartgard Plus is a popular heartworm preventative medication for dogs. The "51-100" typically refers to the weight range of dogs for which this specific dosage of Heartgard Plus is suitable. Here's more information:

1. Purpose: Heartgard Plus is primarily used to prevent heartworm disease in dogs. It is also effective against intestinal parasites like roundworms and hookworms.

2. Active Ingredients: The active ingredients in Heartgard Plus are Ivermectin and Pyrantel Pamoate. Ivermectin helps prevent heartworm disease, while Pyrantel Pamoate controls intestinal parasites.

3. Dosage Range (51-100): The "51-100" on the product label indicates that this specific variant of Heartgard Plus is suitable for dogs weighing between 51 and 100 pounds (23-45 kilograms). Different weight ranges are available to cater to dogs of various sizes.

4. Administration: Heartgard Plus comes in the form of chewable, flavored tablets that are typically administered once a month. It's essential to follow the dosing instructions carefully, and the tablets can be given directly to your dog or hidden in their food.

5. Prescription: While Heartgard Plus is widely available, it's typically recommended and sold by veterinarians. In some regions, a prescription from a veterinarian may be required.

6. Safety: Heartgard Plus is considered safe when used as directed. However, it's crucial to discuss your dog's specific health and medical history with your veterinarian to ensure it's the right heartworm prevention option for them.

7. Regular Use: To maintain effective protection against heartworms, Heartgard Plus should be administered year-round, even in climates with colder seasons. Heartworm disease can be deadly, so consistent prevention is vital.

8. Testing: It's advisable to have your dog tested for heartworm infection before starting them on Heartgard Plus. This is because giving Heartgard Plus to a dog that already has heartworms can have adverse effects.

Always consult with your veterinarian before starting any medication or preventive treatment for your dog, including Heartgard Plus. Your vet can provide guidance on the most suitable product, dosage, and schedule based on your dog's specific needs and health status.

Heartguard for 51-100 lbs

Adopted a heart-worm positive rescue & Vet prescribed Heartgard biweekly as a "slow" treatment: 7 mo later heart-worm neg.! Our dogs think it's a treat not a medicine, and seem to tolerate w/o side effects. We wouldn't risk our furry-family members health by skipping a month.
